The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Bermuda (PrivCom) is releasing statistics for Q2/2025

The Personal Information Protection Act 2016 (PIPA) came into full effect on 1 January 2025.


Please note this report is limited to reported personal information breaches, written requests, and general queries received by the PrivCom Investigations Unit during Q2 (1 April – 30 June 2025) and that some statistics may be subject to change with updated information.

Personal Information Breaches

 

  • There were a total of two (2) reported personal information breaches during Q2. 

  • Both of the two (2) reported personal information breaches were closed by PrivCom during Q2.

  • Of the two (2) personal information breaches:

    • One (1) was reported in error. No personal information was involved.

    • One (1) was related to external (3rd party) unauthorized access to personal information.

 

Written Requests


  • There were a total of five (5) written requests received by PrivCom during Q2.

  • Of the five (5) total written requests received during Q2, one (1) was a written request asking for a Review and four (4) were written requests initiating a Complaint under PIPA. 

  • All five (5) written requests remained open at the conclusion of Q2.  


 

General Queries


  • There were a total of twenty (20) general queries received during Q2.

  • The general queries related to PIPA guidance, general concerns, and procedural steps.

  • Of the general queries received during Q2, all twenty (20) were closed by PrivCom

  • informally during Q2 by providing recommendations or guidance to relevant resources.

  • Some of the common general queries received in Q2 included:

    • Questions relating to the reasonableness of organisations charging a fee

    • Concerns about PIPA in relation to how a business operates and offers their services

    • Concerns about unauthorized access and disclosure of personal and sensitive information within the workplace
